Incremental System
Precedent
This is a residential renovation project conducted in Paris, France by Atelier Dubosc & Landowski. In order to add these additional floors to the existing building, The architects managed to support the additional parts by using a new structure system consisting of a series of additional steel posts which are attached to the existing facades for horizontal strength. This way, no dead load of the additional parts is transferred through the existing building structure.

This revised incremental system is to build additional structures to hold the additional floors while also reserving 1-2 levels in between for indoor communal activities. Same as the precedent, the new structures are fixed to the existing façade for horizontal stability, and the in-between spaces can be open-plan flexible indoor communal spaces.
