Toolkit 30: Revitalizing World Heritage Communal Spaces
The sound ambience of world heritage communal sites that has been lost as a result of the diminishing indigenous community and cultures.
Not all buildings need physical alterations to uphold the universal values that classify them as world heritage buildings. Instead approaching design from an indigenous community engagement might be the key pathway to retain the vibrancy of that which is of heritage value within or around building. When the indigenous community that holds the values and custodianship of the building dies away, the living vibrancy of the building dies as well and with time the building becomes a lifeless artifact that diminishes away.
Since each world heritage building functions under specific contextual guidelines that are protected under strict United Nations Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), the activity introduced to the communities might slightly alter accordingly from the generic options within the toolkits to become site specific.
