Toolkit 23: Sunlight at Tiong Bahru

Problem:

Each unit at Tiong Bahru Estate lacked adequate natural sunlight access. Through implementing the toolkit, we included the following solutions:

Heritage limitation:

All internal walls can be altered with exception to the walls around air well. Nothing is to be built within or across the air well

1. Increasing total window area with new openings

Action of toolkit:

- Larger windows replaced original half height windows

- Addition of internal transom windows

Needs of resident's for application:

- In need of a brighter living environment

- Reduction of long term energy cost as increased sunlight means decrease usage of artificial lighting during the day
