Toolkit 24: Ventilation at Choi Hung
Problem:
Each units at Choi Hung Estate lacks adequate natural ventilation due to its limited façade openings. Through implementing the toolkit, we included the following solutions:
1. Encourage Cross Ventilation
Action of toolkit:
- Create overhead openings between rooms to create a path for ventilation
- New overhead openings facing communal corridor to initiate cross ventilation
- Uses innovative technologies such as SoundScoops to allow air to pass through while retaining audio privacy
Needs of resident's for application:
- In seek of better air circulation in a tight compact area
- Improvement of internal fresh air to areas deep in the unit

2. Optimizing path of wind flow
Actions of toolkit:
- Rearrangement of internal layout to improve wind flow by allowing a clear pathway for ventilation
Needs of resident's for application:
- In seek of a cooler interior temperature throughout the day
- Reduction of long term energy cost as increased wind flow means better natural regulation of temperature
