Toolkit 24: Ventilation at Tiong Bahru
Heritage limitations:
Any changes to the external façade along the balcony must retain the facade's signature cross beam and central column
Problem:
Each unit at Tiong Bahru Estate lacks adequate natural ventilation due to its internal layout. As most of the window access is only through the bedrooms, interior spaces such as the living room are not ventilated unless bedroom doors remain open. Through implementing the toolkit, we included the following solution:
Encourage Cross Ventilation
Action of toolkit:
- Installation of transom windows to allow for ventilation without the need to compromise privacy by having all room doors open all the time
Needs of resident's for application:
- In need of better air circulation in interior spaces with no direct window access

Original ventilation strategy with window access only at the bedrooms

Toolkit applied to allow for convenient ventilation to internal space
